Meet Dr. Elise C. Denneny
Dr. Elise Denneny was born in Chicago, Illinois. She attended Northwestern University in Chicago obtaining her Medical Degree from Rush Medical College then completing a residency in Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery with a Fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery finishing in 1987. Dr. Denneny came to East Tennessee in 1987 and has been here since raising a family and treating East Tennesseans.
Dr. Denneny describes being a physician as combining the intellectual challenge of finding out why a person is sick with the privilege of making them better. Otolaryngology, otherwise known as the study and treatment of ear nose and throat disease, involves treating many illnesses and particularly two mainstream illnesses affecting Tennesseans today: sinus and dizziness. Dr. Denneny specializes in the discovery and treatment of dizziness, difficulties with balance, and voice disorders. “The satisfaction is unending when you are truly improving one’s quality of life while helping them to become healthier and feel better” says Denneny.
Growing up in Chicago, Dr. Denneny’s family placed much emphasis on holding true to their values. She believes family is a relationship gift that requires work and undoubtedly at times more challenging than being a physician. In her spare time, Dr. Denneny enjoys ceramics, music, and dancing.
Dr. Denneny also finds much satisfaction in giving back to the community. She enjoys volunteering at The Joy of Music School which provides free musical instruments and instruction to youth in a stable, nurturing environment. Also, very suiting for her profession, she is active with Knoxville Area Project Access, a consortium of physicians, hospitals and Knoxville Academy of Medicine staff who coordinate and provide healthcare to the underinsured.
