What is an Online Hearing Test?

About 48 million Americans have some degree of hearing loss.

Hearing loss refers to anything that reduces one’s ability to hear properly. It can be caused by different factors and can be congenital or acquired later in life.

Consequences of hearing loss

Research shows that hearing loss has a negative impact on different aspects of human life and experience. It can affect one’s physical, mental, and emotional health. It can also affect one’s perception of mental acuity, self-esteem, and relationships (both with work and personal life).

Older people who can’t hear well can get depressed or withdraw themselves out of frustration or embarrassment of their situation. Sometimes, when older people can’t hear well, they can be perceived as confused, unresponsive, or uncooperative.

When hearing loss is ignored or untreated, it can get worse. Adults who have untreated hearing problems are at higher risk of developing dementia and other cognitive issues.

Signs of hearing loss

You should see a specialist if you notice any of the following:

• Having trouble hearing over the telephone
• Frequently ask people to repeat what they are saying
• Difficulty following conversations when two or more people are talking
• Find the need to turn up the TV volume so loud that others complain
• Have problem hearing because of background noise

Greater Knoxville Ear, Nose, and Throat offers hearing tests that will carefully evaluate the sensitivity of your sense of hearing. This test can help determine the degree of hearing loss you have so appropriate intervention can be provided.

Test your hearing online

We have an online hearing tool that will provide quick feedback on your hearing. While this is not a replacement for seeing a specialist, this online hearing test can be useful if you suspecting you are suffering from any form of hearing loss.

This is a 3-minute test consisting of questions and a tone test that will determine the sound threshold of your ears.

You will immediately get your result after completing the test. You are then offered with an option to request an appointment with our hearing specialist for in-office testing and consultation.

Being able to hear clearly again can make a difference. Don’t hesitate to get screened and seek professional help.
