Meet Dr. Richard J. DePersio
Dr. DePersio certainly comes from a family of physicians – his father, both brothers, an uncle and two cousins are doctors. Knowing at an early age that he would be a physician left only the choice of a medical specialty. Fascination with the anatomy of the ear, nose and throat and the range of patients he would see led Dr. DePersio to otolaryngology.
After receiving a bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee, Dr. DePersio earned his medical degree at UT in Memphis. He did an internship and a residency program at City of Memphis Hospital and a residency in otolaryngology at UT Memphis. He has board certification in both otolaryngology and facial plastic and reconstructive surgery.
Voted Best Dr. DePersio has long been active in professional organizations. He has served as president of the Knoxville Academy of Medicine Foundation. He was a founding member of Project Access, which provides care to patients who do not have insurance. He has been president of the Knoxville Academy of Medicine and vice president of the Tennessee Medical Association. He is also a past president of Tennessee Medical Association and is currently chairman of the Tennessee delegation to the AMA.
